Super Powers and Objects Registration Act, one of the SIM offerings at EMKI, allows participants to grapple with complex issues involving human rights and national security in a fictional universe. Debates focus on genetic modification, crimes committed by or against those with super powers, and should powers be regulated, taxed or registered.
The presentation discusses how to use popular culture to develop civics content and using fantasy with classrooms when discussions of current political issues are too challenging.
Participants learn rules of the Senate, how bills are created, how to use popular culture to teach complex subjects, and how the Super Powers and Objects Registration Act SIM teaches civic engagement to students.
